Why does my scored or folded print job crack

When a printed piece is UV coated and then scored and folded, the coating can crack along the fold line. This is a normal characteristic of UV-coated products — the rigid coating does not bend as easily as the paper underneath. During use, as the piece is repeatedly folded and unfolded, the cracks may become more visible and ink may begin to chip along the fold. Ordering without UV coating will reduce cracking but may not eliminate it entirely on heavy-coverage designs. If cracking along folds is a concern for your project, consider using a matte laminate or aqueous coating instead of UV, or design your artwork so the fold area has lighter ink coverage.
