How to Create an Informed Delivery Campaign

A step-by-step walkthrough of the Informed Delivery interactive campaign process—from artwork preparation to USPS portal submission and post-campaign analytics with Catdi Printing.

Catdi Printing handles this for you

When you run a direct mail campaign with Catdi Printing, we can manage the entire Informed Delivery setup—image prep, USPS portal submission, and performance reporting. This guide explains the process so you understand what's involved, but you don't need to do any of it yourself.

    The 5-Step Campaign Process

    01

    Design Your Direct Mail Piece

    • Work with Catdi Printing's design team or provide your own print-ready artwork.
    • Keep in mind that a Representative Image of the front of your mailpiece will be shown in the Informed Delivery email—design it so it reads clearly on a mobile screen.
    • Bright colors, clear headlines, and prominent branding perform best in the digital preview context.

    02

    Prepare Your Digital Campaign Assets

    • Representative Image: A full-color version of your mailpiece exterior (max 2MB, JPEG or PNG, width 300–500px recommended).
    • Ride-Along Image: Your clickable banner ad (max 2MB, JPEG or PNG, 300×200px recommended), shown below the Representative Image in the Daily Digest email.
    • Destination URL: The landing page, website, or offer page where clicks should go—use a tracked URL to measure attribution.

    03

    Access the Mailer Campaign Portal

    • The campaign is submitted through the USPS Business Customer Gateway (BCG) at gateway.usps.com under the 'Additional Services' tab.
    • You need a BCG account linked to your postage permit. Catdi Printing can submit on your behalf using our established BCG credentials—no account setup required on your end.
    • Catdi Printing submits all campaign data including start/end dates, imb (Intelligent Mail Barcode) ranges, images, and destination URL.
    04

Coordinate with Your Mail Drop Date

    • USPS requires the campaign to be submitted at least 7 business days before your scheduled mail entry date.
    • Catdi Printing recommends finalizing all digital assets 10–14 days in advance to allow for USPS review and approval.
    • The campaign will automatically activate when your mail begins processing through USPS automation.
    05

    Monitor & Receive Analytics

    • After your mail drop, Informed Delivery campaign data becomes available in the BCG portal.
    • Catdi Printing provides you with a campaign performance report including: total notifications sent, open count and open rate, and ride-along image click count and click-through rate.
    • Use this data to compare campaign performance across different offers, creative variations, and mailing lists.
