Catdi Printing offers 2 options for EDGE cards:

  1. Painted Edge- A very sturdy 32pt stock is used giving your card a nice border around the edge. This edge border is painted in a different color than the card itself. While this option has more specified products and sizes, it offers many color options including metallics that will make your card dazzle!
  2. Black Edge- While this option is not actually a painted edge, it still provides a similar look and is worth mentioning if you are looking for a black edge. A black core is sandwiched between bright white, premium uncoated face stock. The multilayered stock is a very sturdy 32 pt. Since these are not painted, black is the only color option. This is a cheaper option in edge cards. It provides the uniqueness of the pop of color on the edges of the card and has more variability in sizes and products.

Things to love about quality painted edge cards!

Painted edge cards are a popular design choice because they have a number of benefits that can help your business succeed.

1. They passively promote your brand

Stay on brand with a card that has edges painted to correspond to your logo. Customers and clients will keep your business “top of mind” when they see the painted edge of your card in a stack of basic white cards. Your card will be easy to find in that stack!

2. They make more of a statement

They’re more visually appealing than a traditional card. The thickness and use of color is unique, stylish, and offers a high level of sophistication. Show your business is different from the very first impression with a card that is different from the rest.

3. They show off your personality

Painted edge cards are a great way to show off your brand’s personality and differentiate yourself from the competition. By using different colors or designs on each side of the card and the edge, you can make a creative, unique, and memorable impression on your customers.

4. They are more durable

Painted edge business cards are thicker and tougher than standard cards. Typical business cards are printed on 14-18pt stock. Painted edge cards are printed on a whopping 32pt stock! The thick, painted edge helps resist bending at the corners and keeps a card looking fresh for much longer.

5. They use uncoated card stock

Using an uncoated stock means that there will be no film or glossy appearance on the card. A drawback to most coated cards is the difficulty to write on them, but this is not an issue at all with cards using an uncoated stock. You or your customers will be able to write clearly and easily on the painted edge card. Uncoated cards also have a slightly higher print quality due to the increased precision of the printing process. Finally, painted edge cards look more modern than card with a coated surface, which is another feature making painted edge cards unique.

6. There’s an array of color options

Painted edge cards come in 17 edge color choices. The color choices are: black, blue, red, orange, pink, yellow, purple, turquoise, and brown. White is also a color option. This option is unpainted for those that want the features of painted edge cards without the color. Painted edge cards also have the options of metallics! The metallic color choices are: blue, gold, green, hot pink, orange, purple, and yellow.

Are there any negatives to painted edge cards?

The only negative to this printing option is that an uncoated stock is not protected from dirt and moisture in the way a coated card is. The thickness makes it very durable and the uncoated finish is simple and modern. But, if you need a card that will resist dirt and moisture, this is probably not the card for you.

What are some design tips for making these types of cards stand out?

Just buy painted edge cards! The features of the card itself will make your business stand out from others. Your card will be thicker and have an edge full of color while other cards will have basic, thin white edges and corners that crease and curl. But, do make sure your design is easily readable and that the edge color contrasts with the design of the front and back of the card.
